Who Needs Certification?
Any person who purchases regulated refrigerants (including R-22) for use in HVAC/R equipment must hold an EPA Section 608 Technician Certification. This applies to HVAC technicians, refrigeration mechanics, and contractors.
Certification Types
Type I: Small appliances (up to 5 lbs). Type II: High-pressure systems (R-22, R-410A, etc.). Type III: Low-pressure systems. Universal: All types. Any certification type is accepted for R-22 purchase.
How We Verify
At checkout for R-22 purchases, you'll be asked to enter your EPA license number. This is stored on your order and visible to our compliance team. We conduct periodic verification audits.
Getting Certified
Contact an EPA-approved certifying organization such as ESCO Group, NCI (National Comfort Institute), or ACCA. The exam is available online and at testing centers nationwide.
